Nutrition, Nutrition, Nutrition!!


We are diving into a unit on NUTRITION! The holiday season is upon us and this is the time of year that we ALL struggle with sticking to a healthy diet. From candy to cookies to filling our plates with twice the portions we actually need...this is a great time to remember that our bodies need BALANCED plates that include foods from all of the five food groups. Your kids are learning about what foods fit into those 5 groups and what the healthiest choices are. When it comes to eating vegetables, they are learning that not all veggies give the same health benefits. We are also learning that "colorful" plates are the best for us. Foods in their natural state, rather than packaged and processed, provide the greatest amount of nutrients our bodies crave! I will also be teaching the kids about portions and what amount of each food group their elementary-aged, growing bodies need each day.
