Fall Fitness Testing

Weekly Pacer Practice!

Once a week we do the "Practice Pacer!" I explain to the kids that the practice pacer is like "Silent Reading." We do it to become better runners, just like silent reading makes us better readers! We don't worry about our speed or ability - the goal is simply to move their body (running, jogging, speed-walking, etc.) for a certain duration of time. This consistent practice will build up the strength and ability to jog the pacer to their grade-level standard by the end of the year! I tell the kids how it wouldn't be fair for their classroom teachers to test them on reading, yet never give them books or the opportunity to read. This is practice - for our heart - to make it stronger so that we have a greater ability to be active for long periods of time.
